Evan’s Story – “I said yes, and it changed my life.”

When Evan felt called to join CBC’s mission trip to El Salvador, he didn’t know exactly why—but he trusted in the Lord and went. That simple “yes” opened his eyes to the power of building relationships rooted in Christ’s love.

“Serving others transformed how I see the world. I began to recognize Christ in everyday life—and in the people around me.”

Since returning, Evan has continued his mission by volunteering as a SPRED (Special Religious Development) catechist at his parish, helping children with special needs grow in faith and prepare to receive the sacraments in a nurturing, Christ-centered environment.

This experience also played a pivotal role in Evan’s vocational journey, validating his discernment to the priesthood.

“If you’re thinking of volunteering—do it. Just being present makes a difference. God works through us when we show up and say yes.”

Dr. Rina Richers, CBC’s 2025 Missionary of the Year, embodies a lifetime of courageous faith, compassionate service, and unwavering commitment to her roots. Born and raised in the impoverished San Jacinto neighborhood of San Salvador, Rina’s early life was steeped in Catholic formation and community leadership, serving on her parish council by age 16. After completing medical school during El Salvador’s civil war, she worked with Doctors Without Borders in the jungle before launching her own OB/GYN clinic near her home parish. Eventually emigrating to the U.S., she rebuilt her career from the ground up—earning her Nurse Practitioner license and running an urgent care clinic in Springfield, VA, which she and her husband have infused with Christ’s healing presence. Through their charitable foundation, the couple has funded critical church repairs in San Jacinto and joyfully invited CBC to serve alongside them—sparking a vibrant mission partnership that now connects communities across borders through faith and service.
